Click-stop vs adjustable knob

Click-stop multi-flow regulators have discrete flow positions instead of a continuously variable knob. The advantage: prescribed flows are dialled in cleanly without drift, even when handled under stress in an emergency. The trade-off: only the listed flow rates are available — if your prescription is, for example, 9 L/min, you'd need to step to 10 L/min (the next click). For most clinical and emergency uses, click-stop is the preferred design.
