The Gentec FM187 is a back-pressure-compensated medical air flowmeter calibrated for the 0-15 LPM range, the air-gas counterpart to the FM197 (medical oxygen). Polycarbonate hood and tube, stainless steel float, slim body, and CE listing — same engineering quality as the oxygen variant, calibrated specifically for medical air gas density.

    Key Features

    • Maximum-durability polycarbonate hood and tube — withstands regular use, impermeable to common cleaning agents and disinfectants.
    • Back-pressure compensated — accurate flow regardless of supply pressure variations.
    • Flow range 0-15 LPM.
    • Calibrated at 50 psi and 70°F.
    • High-quality stainless steel ball float for accurate, durable indication.
    • Slim body.
    • CE-listed.

    Specifications

    • Gas type: Medical air (not oxygen)
    • Flow range: 0-15 LPM
    • Calibration: 50 psi inlet, 70°F (21°C)
    • Float: Stainless steel
    • Tube/hood: Polycarbonate
    • Pressure compensation: Back-pressure compensated
    • Certifications: CE-listed

    FM187 (air) vs FM197 (oxygen)

The FM187 and FM197 are visually similar but calibrated for different gas densities. Medical air and medical oxygen flow differently through the same tube geometry, so each gas needs its own calibrated flowmeter. Don't substitute one for the other — use FM187 for medical air, FM197 for medical oxygen. For setups requiring both gases (blended therapy, ventilator support), order one of each.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Where is medical air used?
Nebulised therapy with non-oxygen-compatible medications, blended oxygen/air respiratory support, ventilator setups requiring controlled gas mix. Most home applications use oxygen only; medical air is mostly clinical.

    Will my air-supply fitting match?
Specify your inlet (cylinder DISS, AS-2473 quick-connect, or wall-pipeline) when ordering. Gentec offers different inlets to match Australian clinical standards.

    Why does back-pressure compensation matter?
Downstream restrictions (humidifiers, narrow tubing, masks) create back-pressure that distorts uncompensated flow readings. Compensation maintains accuracy regardless.
