The Gentec Key Wrench is a drop-forged special-alloy steel wrench for opening and closing medical gas cylinder valves. The "baked" black powder-coated finish prevents rusting and gives a clean professional appearance; the No. 5 "B" MC Key variant is cadmium-plated (silver) for corrosion resistance in higher-humidity environments. Standard issue for any clinical site, ambulance, or mobile-medical kit using medical gas cylinders.

    Key Features

    • Drop-forged special alloy steel — maximum durability.
    • Black powder-coated finish prevents rusting; cadmium-plated variant in silver.
    • Genuine Gentec OEM.
    • Designed for medical cylinder valve operation.

    Specifications

    • Material: Drop-forged special-alloy steel

    • Use: Opening and closing medical gas cylinder valves

When to use a cylinder wrench vs hand-turn valves

Most modern medical cylinders have hand-turn valves with knurled handles for finger operation. Older cylinders, larger industrial-spec cylinders, and some specialty gas cylinders use wrench-only valves. Always keep a cylinder wrench available — even with hand-turn valves, the wrench is useful for stuck or stiff valves and is required for some compliance audits as part of the equipment cabinet.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit all medical gas cylinders?
Standard medical cylinders are designed to fit common wrench sizes. The Gentec Key Wrench fits the most common Australian medical cylinder valve types. For specialty or industrial cylinders, confirm fitment with us before ordering.

    Powder-coated or cadmium-plated — which?
Powder-coated is the standard finish — fine for indoor clinical use. Cadmium-plated (silver) is the upgrade for outdoor, marine, or high-humidity environments where corrosion resistance is more critical.

Do I need this if my regulators are already attached?
Yes — keep one in your cylinder kit anyway for opening the cylinder valve before regulator pressurisation, and for closing the valve when storing or changing cylinders.
