The iCan i6 is a real time continuous glucose monitor that reads your glucose every 3 minutes for up to 15 days on a single sensor, no finger pricks required after setup. Factory calibrated, all in one applicator, and built on Sinocare's third generation direct electron transfer sensor technology.

    How it works

A small sensor filament sits just under the skin on the abdomen or arm. It measures glucose in the interstitial fluid and sends a reading to your phone or the standalone iCan view reader every 3 minutes over Bluetooth. No calibration finger pricks are needed, the sensor is factory calibrated before it leaves the line.

    Key specifications

    • Suitable age: 2 years and up
    • Monitoring time: 15 days per sensor
    • Monitoring site: abdomen or arm
    • Test range: 2 to 25 mmol/L
    • Transfer method: real time Bluetooth, every 3 minutes
    • Calibration: factory calibrated, no finger prick calibration needed
    • Sensor shelf life: 12 months from manufacture
    • Warm up time: 30 minutes after insertion
    • Overall accuracy (MARD): 8.71%
    • Water resistance: IP28, resistant to 2 metres for up to 2 hours
    • Sensor weight: approximately 2g
    • Sensor dimensions: 23mm x 3.95mm
    • Data receiving device: mobile app or the standalone iCan view reader

    Accuracy

The i6 uses a third generation glucose dehydrogenase (GDH) sensor with direct electron transfer, the same broad approach used in newer CGM platforms, rather than the older oxygen dependent or mediator based chemistry in some earlier CGM generations. Sinocare's clinical data across 1,668 matched pairs shows an overall MARD of 8.71%, with 93.65% of readings falling within 20% of reference lab values. Independent breakdowns show 8.71% MARD on adult abdomen sites, 9.4% on adult arm, 8.89% on paediatric abdomen (ages 2 to 17), and 8.6% on paediatric arm (ages 13 to 17).

The sensor also shows strong resistance to interference from common substances that can distort readings on some other CGM systems, including paracetamol (acetaminophen), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and a wide panel of other drugs and metabolites tested by an independent metrology institute.

    Wearing the sensor

The i6 uses an all in one applicator, there's no separate loading step. Remove the cap, press the applicator against the chosen site, and the sensor inserts and adheres in one motion. Warm up is 30 minutes, faster than earlier Sinocare CGM generations. An additional reinforcement patch can be applied around the edge for extra hold, useful for active wear, sport, or hot weather.

    Data and sharing

Glucose data streams to a smartphone app in real time, with alerts, trend graphs, and event logging. For anyone who prefers not to rely on a phone, or wants a dedicated device, the iCan view reader receives the same real time data over Bluetooth and can also sync to family members or carers remotely so they can follow readings from another location.

    Who it suits

The i6 is approved for use from age 2, making it one of the few CGM options suitable for young children as well as adults. Because it needs no finger prick calibration, it suits anyone who wants a lower maintenance monitoring routine than a traditional calibrated CGM.

    Important information

This is a prescription monitoring device. Glucose targets, monitoring frequency, and how CGM results should be used to manage insulin or other treatment are clinical decisions. Always follow the plan set by your doctor or credentialled diabetes educator, and confirm any reading that doesn't match how you feel with a finger prick test where appropriate.

CGM readings measure interstitial fluid, not blood directly, so there is a short physiological lag between a blood glucose change and the sensor picking it up. This is a known characteristic of all CGM technology, not specific to this device.
